Responsive Design has been a trending word the last few months and if you haven’t heard of it you’d better learn fast! We are here to help with that.
What is Responsive Design?
Responsive design is a web design that responds correctly to multiple devices, desktops, tablets and mobile phones. Let’s say you are at work and you are looking up a website on your mobile phone, everything looks great, it fits within your screen, you don’t have to zoom in to click on certain menu items, and it almost looks like an application would. When you get home you plug in the same url on your desktop, when it pops up, it looks the way it should, same functionality as the one on your phone.
Now, if this same website wasn’t a responsive site and instead was a standard website, it would be hard to navigate on the phone and would not be user friendly.
Some companies will try and get around this, by having a mobile site and a standard site. The problem with this is that the mobile site has a different URL and HTML associated with it than the standard site, making it confusing for Google to crawl and link to.
Why are Responsive Websites Important?
Responsive websites are not only essential for businesses to have for their clients behalf but for their own online presence and search engine optimization. Google announced that responsive design is now the industry standard, due to the fact that there is only one URL and the same HTML across all devices, making it easier to crawl for keywords, boosting your SEO, sharing your link, and bringing more online presence to your business.
Having a responsive design means only one search engine optimization campaign. If you have two sites, one mobile and one standard, you have to double your SEO efforts by having two different campaigns, due to the fact there are two different URL’s. So, responsive design is now saving you time and money, two wonderful things for business owners.
Responsive Design Stats
Responsive design isn’t just a cool fad that’s going to fade away, it is here to stay and it’s important that there are statistics that back up the fact that more and more users are using their mobile devices to search for your company online.
Did you know that 62% of companies that designed a site specifically for mobile devices (i.e. responsive) had an increase in sales? Also, 4 out of 5 consumers use their smartphones to shop, so if your website isn’t optimized for various devices, 40% of consumers won’t buy from you and will go to a competitors site that is mobile optimized.
What Responsive Design Means For Your Business
Having a responsive designed website that works properly is one of the most essential tools your company can have. When your clients browse your site you want them to see the great work you provide and the products you offer in a user friendly environment. By having a responsive website you stay ahead of your competitors and broaden your audience.
